The Artist

Alan has become the artist he is today through his lifelong love and study of landscape and wildlife. Alan was born in Montrose in 1947 and spent his early childhood around the estuaries and beaches surrounding Montrose, and began studying and drawing the huge variety of bird life of Montrose Basin when most of his peers were still playing building blocks. Alan also taught himself taxidermy, which has helped him tremendously with his understanding of the anatomy of birds and animals.

After working as a commercial artist for 15 years he moved to Glenlyon in Perthshire where he opened a gallery to sell his work. For the next 20 years he painted the spectacular surrounding scenery and wildlife of this part of Scotland.

He moved to the west coast of Scotland in 2008, to the small hamlet of Drimnin, where he has his gallery, workshop and studio, which overlooks the Sound Of Mull and Tobermory harbour. From here he can spend more time on his boat, exploring and painting another spectacular part of Scotland.
